HTML Design View

I recently started a new job which involves using Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003, which I also used at my last job.
Here's my problem. When I open an HTML page in Visual Studio, the only option I get is to view it in HTML view. There is no Design view tab. Under Tools, Options, HTML Designer, I have Design View checked for all three options (Start HTML Pages, Start Active Server Pages and Start Web Form Pages.
In addition, while I can see all the tabs on my toolbox (Device Controls, Crystal Reports, Data, XML Schema, Dialog Editor, Mobile Web Forms, Web Forms, Components, Windows Forms, HTML, Clipboard Ring and General), the only tab that has any of the objects enabled is the HTML tab. Except for the Pointer, all the other objects on all the other tabs are disabled (greyed-out).
This was not the case with the installation of Visual Studio .NET 2003 at my last job. Has anyone experienced this before or can anyone offer any suggestions as to what options I need to set in order to enable HTML Design View and to be able to use the server components?
Thanks in advance,
Steve

...I am not sure why this is happening.
However, try accessing the design view from the menus...

...Does that work?

Hi Mark:

Thanks for responding to my post.

I meant to include that in my original post. My View menu does not include the "Design" option. Neither is the option available when I right-click on the item in the Solutions Explorer.

Does Visual Studio .NET have to be installed as Administrator or as someone with Administrator privileges?

Thanks again,

Steve

Seehttp://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/vsintro7/html/vxoriInstallationSetup.asp for details, specifically the "User Permissions" section. Like most products, VS.NET requires admin rights for installation.
Sounds like someone may have installed it for you? If so, better go harrass them.
Good Luck!

...the answer is "yes".
Ug.
If that was not the case when your instance of VS.NET 2003 was installed, then, (assuming that you are using Windows XP Pro), I recommend the following:
--Login to the workstation with an account that is a member of the "Administrators" group.
--Uninstall VS.NET 2003 completely.
--Reboot.
--Do a full install of VS.NET 2003, checking all options in the components selection dialog.
--Reboot.
--Apply all Recommended and Critical updates from the Windows Update site.
--Reboot.
--Try to run VS.NET 2003.
--If it works, then you are all set; but, if it does not work, then call your girl and tell her you might be late for dinner because it is probably going to be a long day.
HTH.
